How to Use an Emergency Response Necklace

No one likes to consider the unpleasant aspects of growing older – weaker limbs, loss of energy and stamina, increased rates of disease and bodily dysfunction, fading senses of hearing or sight. However, these ARE the realities of the aging process, and if seniors desire to live active and independent lives, there must be some form of contingency plan set in place for accident, mishaps or health crises.
An emergency response necklace and the support team behind this convenience technology is a smart and efficient solution. Emergency response necklaces, bracelets and belt strap-ons take wireless technology, 2-way radios, computer data systems and a professionally trained staff of response attendants to create a synergistic safety communications system for the welfare of the wearer of the system and the peace-of-mind of that wearer’s family and friends.
Basically, in a scenario where some form of accident occurs to the senior – say a fall in the bathtub, getting accidentally locked onto the balcony of their apartment or home, falling in the hallway and being unable to get themselves up off the floor –the emergency response necklace becomes an instant tool for summoning the form of help that is needed. The emergency response system works like this:
· When an accident occurs and the senior finds themselves in need of assistance, they push the button on their necklace, bracelet or belt strap-on device.
· In the control center that monitors clients and their response system technology, an alarm is sounded to inform the attendant that the client’s button has been activated.
· The attendant activates the 2-way speaker system to inquire of the wearer as to the nature of their emergency.
· A computer database is called-up that provides the name, address, contact information of helpers, as well as health conditions of the client.
· If the client is able to speak, he or she can tell the attendant what situation they are in. If they are locked out of their home and neighbors have been designated as helpers who keep a key on-hand for such emergencies, those neighbors are contacted by the attendant to come to the rescue of the senior. If they have fallen and cannot get up but are otherwise alright, those neighbors or another designated helper will be called. If they are injured, the appropriate medical authorities will be summoned.
· If the wearer of the emergency response necklace or bracelet is unable to respond to the attendant, an emergency response crew is summoned to the home or apartment. Often times, a designated family member is also notified of the emergency so that they can get to the home or apartment as well.
Using an emergency response necklace or bracelet has a great deal of advantages and no disadvantages. All that matters is that your senior knows how to operate the “panic button” and that they remember to wear their medical alert necklace or bracelet each day for safety’s sake.
